Improve Your Golf Swing With 5 Quick Methods

By Donald Harris

Golfers often see other players throw their clubs in frustration. Sometimes they may hear a few swear words after a bad shot. If you are also guilty of the same faults, you can do something to improve your golf swing. Practicing often may not always be the best solution if you keep repeating the wrong moves.

Making improvements to your game will let you have decent scores and help you win more bets. There are golfers that put badly or have a weak short game. Typically though, the real culprit is the long game and improper swinging techniques that make the ball unintentionally swerve to either the left or right side of the fairway when you intend it to go straight or to the opposite side.

One of the things you need to work on is the proper way to grip your club. Many players unconsciously hold their clubs too tightly which may give a false sense of security. Do not grasp the shaft with too much force in order to allow your arms and body to move efficiently. Relax your hold and hang your arms comfortable on your sides.

You have to grip your iron or driver by interlocking your finger. This lets you hold the shaft in a relaxed manner yet securing the club in your hands. There are three common ways to hold the club. The Vardon way is the most widely used which involves linking the pinkie finger to the other hand's fingers. Some people also use the interlocking clasp and the less common baseball grip.

There is no single right or wrong kind of grip for each player. You will have to discover which type of clasp works best on your game. What is important is to feel comfortable and to apply less pressure on the shaft of your clubs. Use a glove for your lead hand. That would be the opposite hand of your dominant hand. If you are a leftie, then you need a glove on your right hand.

After trying out different grips, and find the one you are most comfortable with, you will notice a difference in the way your club hits the ball. You will hear a distinct ping sound and you will also feel a solid hit if the ball hits the center of the club face. These two signals will tell you when you are hitting correctly using the right swinging method.

Once you master the correct way to hold your club, you can start focusing on your stance. Standing correctly before the ball will also improve your swinging technique. This allows your body to prepare for the swing and to maximize on it. Align the soles of your feet before the ball correctly flat on the ground. Bend your knees slightly.

Bring your driver or iron back and pause when your club forms a 90 degree angle. Pause a second or two at that angle before bringing your club down for the downswing. Your iron or driver should move like pendulum as it moves from the backswing to the finish. You can significantly improve your golf swing by practicing at the range using these tips.
