Golf Mats - A Putting Mat Can Work If A Full Practice Green Is Too Big

By Davidson Healy

If you're no different than the rest of the golf nuts, you've probably had it in your head from time to time to have a private putting green or putting mat installed at your home. Unfortunately, this just doesn't work for most average golfers; there are several factors, but most golfers simply cannot bring themselves to dedicate the space or time to put in a full putting green at their house.

It's probable they live in the city or close to it where living area is highly valued, or maybe maintaining and caring for the green is too much physical work for them to take on. However they got there, golfers under these conditions feel helpless about ever getting a golf setup at their house. They may not know, however, that a golf mat is available in all shapes and sizes which means that pretty much anyone has the space for a putting mat.

Putting mats are much smaller so there's very little space required when you compare it to a larger, more elaborate mat or full putting set up and are fairly easy to relocate because of their significantly small size. If an indoor putting green is the choice, it's likely go into a special putting room dedicated to that purpose. Once it's custom scored and installed properly it's difficult to undo, particularly if the intent is to put it in another room for which it will certainly have to be re-scored to be properly re-installed.

An indoor putting green is usually in a designated room planned and reserved for that purpose. After it's cut to order and put in the house, it's not at all easy to get it back out and if the game plan is to re-locate it to another room in the house it will most likely have to be re-cut to install properly. Putting greens in an outside space are almost always bigger, having been designed for a bigger space, and are heavy and awkward to move. All but the most elaborate putting mats on the other hand are small enough so that a single person can handle one. This is the best overall pick for the golfers who wants to practice but can't swing the cost or who can't maintain a regular sized putting green.

The great thing about a putting mat is that for the most part it will have the same affect and benefit to your putting skill that a full-sized green would. This stems from the fact that over half of an average golfer's score is made up of putts; the chipping, driving and approach shots are also important to practice. All the clubs in the full swing game are important to practice with, but for most golfers, becoming skilled at putting is the fastest way to consistently drop their golf scores.
